K.C. Council blood drive

The K.C. Council 8342 will host a sausage and pork jambalaya cookout at St. John the Evangelist on HWY 73 in Prairieville. Those who donate blood will get a plate of Jambalaya. The Lady's Altar Society will also be doing a "sweets sale." The event will be held 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Four-time Jambalaya Champion Byron Gautreau will be the jambalaya chef. A notice for all seniors: additionally, a senior citizens banquet will be held in the new activity center on October 18 at St. John from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Call Delphin at 225-276-5117 for more info.

Ascension Council on Aging annual Halloween Party

Bring on the witches, goblins, and ghosts and get ready for the Ascension Council on Aging’s annual Halloween Party. The party is set for Tuesday, October 31, 2017 starting at 9:30 a.m. at the Gonzales Senior Center. The party is open to parish seniors age 60 and older. Get out your favorite costume or decorated t-shirt and join in the fun for the popular costume contest. Prizes will be awarded for the funniest, prettiest, scariest, and most original costume. Mark your calendar and plan to attend and participate in one of the most popular parties of the year! Food, fun, door prizes and live music will be there! Lunch will be served at the Halloween Party. DOTD Annual public Road Show

The Joint Transportation, Highways, and Public Works Committee will conduct a legislative public hearing on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. The purpose of the hearing – commonly referred to as the annual DOTD Road Show – is to review highway construction priorities for the fiscal year 2018-2019. Location: State Capitol Basement, House Committee Room 1, October 11, 2017, 9 a.m. District 61: Ascension, Assumption, East and West Baton Rouge, East and West Feliciana, Iberville, Pointe Coupee and St. James Parishes. Each DOTD District hosts its own Road Show to allow legislators, other elected officials, DOTD representatives and the general public to discuss and obtain information about construction projects in the preliminary FY 18-19 Highway Priority Program and how those projects will affect each area of the state.

All those interested are invited to attend the Road Show and will be afforded an opportunity to express their views. Oral testimony may be supplemented by presenting important facts and documentation in writing. Written statements and comments should be handed to the committee conducting the Hearing, or mailed to the following address, postmarked within 45 calendar days following the Hearing: Joint Highway Priority Construction Committee, C/O LA DOTD (Section 85), P.O. St. Amant Boo at the Barn this weekend

The annual halloween event "Boo at the Barn" is coming up Saturday, Oct 14, 2-5 p.m. at the St. Amant High Track. Cost is $1 or 1 canned good to enter. All proceeds being donated locally. The event promotes agricultural education. It promises to be a "fun, barnyard themed Fall celebration."

Attorney General to address Ascension GOP Roundtable

Jeff Landry, Louisiana’s Attorney General will be the featured speaker at the October Ascension GOP Roundtable, sponsored by Ascension Republican Women. The Roundtable will be held on Thursday, October 19 at 11:30 a.m. at the Clarion Inn, 1500 W. Highway 30 in Gonzales. (11:30 to 12:00 – Meet and Greet; Noon. – Event). All 2017 Republican candidates are welcome to meet and greet with guests! The event is open to the public and guests are welcome. Reservations are requested. Cost for the lunch is $18.00 (Choice of three entrees), collected at the door (checks or cash preferred). Fundraiser and Old School Dance

A dance will be held at St. Catherine of Sienna's multi-purpose center located at 421 St. Patrick Street in Donaldsonville on Friday, October 13 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Join them and jam to non-stop music (hip hop, r&b, reggae, jazz and soul). Arthritis Foundation’s Walk with Ease program

Ascension Parish Library in Gonzales and St. Elizabeth Community Education present an exercise program, Walk With Ease, to meet three times per week beginning Monday, October 16, at 8:30 a.m. for six weeks. The Arthritis Foundation’s Walk With Ease program is proven to reduce pain and improve your overall health. No matter if you need relief from arthritis pain or just want to be active, this exercise program can teach you how to safely make physical activity part of your everyday life. It will help motivate you to get in shape; help you walk safely and comfortably; and improve flexibility, strength, and stamina. If you can be on your feet for ten minutes without increased pain, you can have success with Walk With Ease. Walk With Ease will include a brief lecture and walking exercise at each session. St. James Parish road closure

A road closure will take place from 12:00 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. on LA 18 northbound and southbound on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 and Sunday, October 15, 2017 from 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. No thru traffic will be allowed to pass during this road closure. The closure will be from Sydney Rd. to Syongy Ln. The closure is necessary for the installation of steel girders for the pipe rack across LA 18 for YCI’s MOF project. In the event of an emergency, the limestone diversion road adjacent to LA 18 will be available for emergency vehicles to pass through the closure. No regular traffic will be allowed to use this during the closure times. Detour routes for non-emergency vehicles are as follows: Northbound – Take LA 18 to LA 3219 turn right on LA 3127, then right on LA 70 to LA 18. Southbound – Take LA 18, turn left on LA 70, and turn left on 3127 to LA 3219 to LA 18.
