5 things: Father's Day edition

1. Head out for tee time: Spend the afternoon at Pelican Point hitting golf balls. Not a member? That's okay, the club offers guest passes for non-members.

2. Go fishing: Cabela's in Gonzales is holding a Father's Day Fun weekend on June 18 and 19. The BB gun and safe archery range will be open, there will be live kayaking demos, dutch oven cooking and smoking and kids casting. The fishing pond will also be open for dads and kids.

3. Enjoy a swamp tour: Louisiana has no shortages of swamp and boat tours throughout the state. There are many tours offered within an hour of Ascension such as New Orleans, Manchac, Plaquemine and Napoleonville.

4. Go beer tasting: Right down the road in Baton Rouge, there is a local brewery, Tin Roof Brewing Co., that offers tours on the weekends. A great idea for the dad who loves trying new beer.

5. Jam out to Zydeco: The Louisiana Cajun-Zydeco Festival is held June 18 and 19 in New Orleans, an hour drive from Ascension. The festival is free and features three music stages with over 20 performers throughout the two-day event.
