Garden Club studies African Violets

The Gonzales Garden Club held its monthly meeting at the Gonzales Safety Center on Jan. 6, 2016. The guest speaker was Laura Moser, a twelve-year member of Sundowner’s African Violet Society of Baton Rouge. She discussed the global history, propagation techniques, and healthy maintenance of African violet plants. Moser also diagnosed growth problems of plant specimens brought by club members.
Four GGC members brought mass floral designs for critiques. The Horticultural Hint of the Month was to plant tulip and hyacinth bulbs that have been chilled for six to eight weeks. Conchita Richey provided an explanation of wick watering African violets as the Gardening Tip of the Month. Hostesses Loretta Ramirez, Janis D’Benedetto, Lorraine Gautreau, Gail Lonibos, Ellen Richmond and Cathy Venable served chili with accompaniments and desserts for lunch.
