Staff Writer
Gonzales Weekly Citizen

The Ascension Parish Master Gardeners Association under the direction of the LSU AgCenter presents a series of educational workshops with gardening and landscaping tips geared to both novice and advanced gardeners. The first workshop will be hosted by the Ascension Parish Library on the following topic:

Vegetable Gardening with the Guys: Feb. 24, at 6:30 p.m., Galvez

Although both men and women can be passionate about gardening, growing vegetables really remains a man’s domain. Join Craig Roussel, Ascension Parish County Agent, with a team of master gardeners for an evening with the guys. Through many years of trial and error, these gardeners have developed their own unique approaches to make vegetable gardening easier and more productive. Learn new strategies and techniques that can save time and increase enjoyment as the men share their stories and experiences as vegetable gardeners. To register, call 622-3339.

Bad Bug Be Gone … Safely: March 3, at 6:30 p.m., Gonzales

It happens to all gardeners. We see a suspicious bug wreaking havoc in our garden or landscape. We rush for a chemical and start spraying. But the process of ridding our prized plants of pests is much more complicated. That pesticide may not be effective and may actually cause harm. Join Kim J. Pope, Pesticide Safety Education Coordinator with the LSUAgCenter, for a discussion on how to handle pesticides correctly for different pest-infected situations and how to prevent environmental damage. To register, call 647-3955.
