Pelican Point/Greens Garden Club members tour

Pelican Point/Greens Garden Club members toured LSU's energy-efficient LaHouse, Oct. 11. Diane Scimeca, registered interior designer and healthy home coordinator for LaHouse, served as tour guide through the educational resource center that has the look and feel of a real home. It integrates durability with other goals of sustainability: resource efficiency, healthy living, practicality and convenience. Participants learned about wind-resistant garage doors and windows, universal design, energy conservation, lighting and insulation, and high-performance building products and methods. LaHouse is specifically designed with the climate and weather of the Gulf region in mind. It is a showcase for best practices and code-plus construction. The group also enjoyed lunch at Mike Anderson's restaurant.
