Matassa proclaims Men's Health Week

Staff Report
L to R: Parish President Kenny Matassa and president/CEO of St. Elizabeth Hospital Robert Burgess.

Ascension Parish President Kenny Matassa proclaimed June 13 to June 19 as Men’s Health Week in Ascension Parish.

Matassa presented the proclamation to Robert Burgess, president/CEO of St. Elizabeth Hospital. President Matassa stated citizens of Ascension Parish are encouraged to increase their awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle, regular exercise and medical checkups. Burgess announced St. Elizabeth Hospital will be sponsoring the Second Annual Men’s Health Luncheon, which will focus on prostate cancer. The luncheon, called Re Fit 2 Fight, will take place at noon on June 15 at PARC 73.

Men die early because we are stubborn and we don’t listen,” Burgess said. “Many of the diseases are silent killers that get to us, and we are going to talk about one of them on the 15th at our Men’s Health Luncheon. We are going to talk about (the) prostate. None of us like to hear it. None of us like to be part of it. But it is the one cancer, one of the highest killers of men, that is curable. All we have to do is listen, and all we have to do is take care of ourselves.”
