St. Elizabeth Hospital’s O’Connor receives statewide honor

St. Elizabeth Hospital’s Emergency Department Director, Tammy O’Connor, RN, BSN, received the distinction of Louisiana’s Emergency Nurse Manager of the Year from the Emergency Nurses’ Association at a ceremony Nov. 4 in the Sr. Vernola Room of St. Elizabeth Hospital.

O’Connor was selected from a state-wide pool of peer nominated Emergency Department Managers. The Emergency Nurse Manager of the Year award in presented to a nurse who has consistently demonstrated excellence in the profession of emergency nursing and made significant contributions to the profession of emergency nursing management.

Representatives from the Louisiana Chapter of the Emergency Nurses’ Association will be on hand to present the prestigious award. The Emergency Nurses’ Association provides guidance, missions, goals and standards of care for Emergency Departments across the nation.

Nominators are anonymous, but one noted, “[O’Connor] provides quality leadership to her department, and is well respected by her staff as well as staff from other ancillary departments. She is setting a precedent for other Emergency Nurse Managers by actively mentoring her staff nurses, while encouraging and supporting the effort to have all Registered Nurses attain the status of CEN (Certified Emergency Nurses). Tammy advocates for her staff to attend classes and conferences and holds the distinction of having the most attendees at the national conference from any Louisiana hospital.”
