Mothers of overseas troops from the Capital Area are raising money to buy special flags for the families of 153 fallen Louisiana soldiers.

The Blue Star Mothers are hoping to raise $51,000 by April to purchase “Honor and Remember” flags for every Louisiana family that has lost a son or daughter in the armed forces since the 9/11 attacks.

The Baton Rouge chapter of Blue Star Mothers of America has served as a network of support and friendship for the loved ones of active duty personnel as America has endured two wars. They regularly attend the funerals of fallen soldiers to support grieving families, and they collect items for care packages to send to soldiers deployed overseas.

This year, the Blue Star Moms are asking military supporters in the state to consider making a financial gift to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

“Our most difficult responsibility is being there for the families of fallen soldiers,” says Janet Broussard, president of the HYPERLINK ""Baton Rouge chapter of Blue Star Mothers.  “It’s hard to believe that there’s no national symbol or keepsake to honor the sacrifices and courage of the Gold Star families.”

Blue Star Moms asks those interested in helping to visit HYPERLINK "" and use the PayPal link to make a donation.  Blue Star Mothers is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and any donations to this campaign are fully tax-deductible.
