Troop A to conduct child safety seat inspections

Staff Writer
Gonzales Weekly Citizen

Troopers will be available to inspect child safety seats at Troop A on Tuesdays beginning Tuesday, Jan. 18.

Troop A currently has a number of Troopers who are certified technicians through The National Child Passenger Safety Certification Training Program. Last year, Troopers inspected and assisted with proper installation of nearly 150 child safety seats at Troop A.

“This is one of the areas of safety where we can make a huge difference,” said Captain Frank Ducote, Troop A Commander. “Our certified technicians are well-trained and dedicated to saving the lives of children who are victims of motor vehicle crashes.”

There are many different styles and combinations of child safety seats and vehicles, which means installation can bedifficult and confusing. The misuse rate in Louisiana is above the national average. It is the goal of this program to encourage the use of child restraints, decrease the misuse of child restraints, and encourage compliance of the Louisiana child restraint and seat belt laws.

Troopers will be available each week on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. to assist with the proper installation of child safety seats.

The service is free;  everyone is encouraged and welcome to attend. For more information on the correct guidelines to follow, visit Louisiana’s Child Passenger Safety Law page on the Louisiana State Police Website at www.lsp.org/troopachildsafety.html
