Trinity AME Church, 1420 South Darla Avenue, Gonzales, continues the June Friday Fellowship presentations with a Friday, June 12 music workshop presented by Kenneth M. Washington Jr. Kenethis a music teacher and band director at Belfair Montessori Magnet School in Baton Rouge. He has worked with students from ages 3 to 18 in all aspects of music.

Whether it's teaching a beginner how to play an instrument, teaching songs by rote and sheet music, or just exploring the vast world of music through games and fun activities, Kenneth excels when it comes to working with students. Kenneth is well versed and can play many different instruments. However, his primary instruments: are drums (16 years), Piano (10 years), and bass guitar (7 years). Kenneth had formal lessons on drums for 2 years starting at age 7.

He taught himself piano after his middle school band director taught him how to read music, and learned bass on his own after being a part of a small Jazz combo in high school.

Kenneth is deeply rooted in the works of Gospel music. He is the primary drummer for the New Freedom Baptist Church of Baton Rouge, LA. He has been drumming for this church since the age of 10 and has gained much experience in playing gospel music by ear on the drum set.

Kenneth is a graduate of Southern University (Spring 2014) with a Bachelor degree of Music Education. Attending Southern University allowed Kenneth the privilege of marching with the infamous "Human Jukebox", the band of Southern University. As a former band member, Kenneth carries many of the same ideals that the organization promoted into his teachings. Ideals such as hard work, unity, practice, uniformity, consistency, and complete willingness to learn something new.

The Friday Fellowship programs begin at 6:00 PM. The Reverend Orin J. B louin, Pastor and members of Trinity AME Church invite the public to attend. Kathe Hambrick Jackson of the African American Museum will present a Juneteenth message on Friday, June 19, 2015. Gonzales Middle Principal, Mr. C. Watson will present on Friday, June 26.
