Baton Rouge Symphony visits Houmas House

The Baton Rouge Symphony visited the Houmas House and Gardens, December 22. Throughout the evening, they played holiday music for those in attendance. This was the twelfth year they conducted A Houmas Holiday, but the symphony's first year in the newly renovated venue.

"We're so honored to be one of the first people in this new venue at the museum here," Eric Marshall, the Executive Director of the Baton Rouge Symphony said.

"It's our way to come down here to Ascension Parish and play some wonderful music for this area," he said.

The new venue allowed them to sell more tickets this year than in previous years. With around 600 tickets sold, Houmas House was filled with holiday cheer.

"We're just honored that people want to spend their Sunday before Christmas with us. And if we can help brighten their holiday a little bit, then we're really doing our job," said Marshall.

The program for A Houmas Holiday opened with the holiday classic, "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year." They then played songs like "Away in a Manger," "Jingle Bells," and "The Christmas Song."

The night included singing along to the songs "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" and "O' Come All Ye

Faithful." The performance closed with "Sleigh Ride."

"I just really want to reiterate how thankful we are to Houmas House for having us here every year, how wonderful it is to be here, and how excited we are to be in Ascension Parish," Marshall said.

The symphony performs regularly in the Baton Rouge area. Upcoming concerts include Mozart Birthday Bash, Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra Chamber Players, and a performance with Trisha Yearwood.
