By His Grace: It is all about the relationship

Edith Nevis, Special to the Weekly Citizen, The Chief

"Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you." 1 Peter 5:6-7

In a relationship with Christ in this one verse are many points that should not be overlooked. And too often people struggle with the notion they are unworthy of such love.

"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8

To humble oneself in any relationship requires us to become submissive to another, that is to yield to an authority above our own in complete and absolute trust. In today’s society this is difficult. Relationships absent of God within the home are often viewed through the lens of dysfunction; interpreted as abusive emotionally, physically, or mentally. Due to past hurt and disappointments by man, the lord is too often compared to man. Here is where we wrestle within ourselves when building a relationship with Christ.

"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." John 14:27

To bring honor to God through our relationship with his son, set aside pride, where self-sufficiency rules. The lord is always the gentleman and never intrudes. When in a relationship with Christ, he needs to know he is welcome and wanted in our lives.

"The righteous cry out and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all." Psalms 34:17-19

Do you agree the word of God is true? Then cease worrying about circumstances beyond your control. Cast your cares upon the lord.

When a promise is given by God, he keeps it. Be anxious about nothing, but find comfort in knowing you serve a God that can never fail. He knows every detail of our existence while addressing all situations in life with care and deep affection for us. We can honor the lord in our relationships by fully trusting in his abilities and not our own. And stop questioning the validity of God’s love for you. You and I are viewed by God as worthy and valuable just as we are (Isaiah 43:4). It's never required to be perfect before him. In fact, the lord came to gather unto him the imperfect to make perfect in him (Hebrews 10:14).

"Surely the righteous will never be shaken; they will be remembered forever. They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord. Their hearts are secure, they will have no fear; in the end they will look in triumph on their foes." Psalms 112:6-8

Brothers and sisters, the time draws near to the return to our king. Do not be caught unaware and not heed the warning while the door of salvation is still open. Come now and accept Jesus as lord before it is too late.

If you are unsure whether you’re standing with Christ Jesus and are ready to establish a relationship with the son of God, allow me to extend an invitation to experience his wonderful love and all that it brings with it.

Please repeat this prayer: "Lord Jesus, forgive my sins I committed against you. I believe Jesus died for my sins and has risen again. Please come into my life and heart and lead the way. I confess you as my lord and savior from this day forward. In Jesus’ name, amen."

Welcome into the family of Christ.

Until next week, be blessed and continue to bless others along the way. Shalom.
