Ascension Veterans Association awards scholarships

Luke Ory, St. Amant High School

The Ascension Veterans Associations (AVA) is honored to announce the recipients of this year’s AVA Scholarships. This scholarship focuses on individuals accomplishing exemplary civic service and patriotic ideology and is made possible through the community support of Ascension parish veterans. Three scholarships of $1000.00 each were presented to three local high school seniors.

Micah Daggs, Ascension Catholic High School, is the grandson of a Korean War veteran. Micah will attend Xavier University in New Orleans and plans to become a Sports Medicine Physician. Micah was very active in his community, school, and church. Micah was inducted into the National Society of High School Scholars, a member of the National Honor Society, Ascension Catholic Tennis Team, and the Donaldsonville Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council.

Luke Ory, St. Amant High School, is the grandson of a Vietnam War veteran. Luke will be attending Louisiana College in Pineville, LA and plans to become a Pharmacist. Luke was a member of the St. Amant High Gators football team and was selected as player of the week on several occasion and a selection to play in the Red Stick Bowl. He also was a member of the Track and Field team, St. Amant High Band, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Madlen Robicheaux, Ascension Catholic High School, is the daughter of a Desert Storm veteran and granddaughter of a Vietnam Era veteran. Madlen will be attending Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond to study Nursing. A National Honor Society member, Madlen also was an All-American Cheerleader, member of the ACHS softball, track, and powerlifting teams, and yearbook staff. Madlen also attended the American Legion’s 2017 Louisiana Girls State program.

The AVA congratulates these recipients and thanks all who applied. Each applicant was highly qualified. The AVA will be releasing details for next year’s scholarship soon. These scholarships are made possible through the generous donations of the community though our Musical Tribute the Troops event.
