This year's Dancing for a Cause stars pose together for the first time at Kamals in Gonzales.

The Arc of East Ascension's biggest fundraiser of the year held its annual meet-and-greet at Kamal's Kafe last week and featured last year's top fundraiser Louis LeFebrve III of Main Street Dental Care, other top performers from 2017, local officials, Arc of EA board members, and Kamal.

"We've got a wonderful crowd--bigger than last year," Special Event Coordinator for the Arc of East Ascension Sharon Morris said. "We've got more people on board. It's such a wonderful night here in Ascension Parish. We enjoy the fact that everybody in the community can get together to make this thing happen."

The Dancing for a Cause fundraiser truly is a magnificent event in the parish, modeled after the famous ABC television show, Dancing with the Stars. This year it will be held Saturday, July 14 at 7 p.m. inside the Lamar Dixon 4-H building.

This year a shift in technology allows voters to pick their winner at the newly created www.dancingforacause.net website. The emcees for this year's event will be Cheryl Mercedes and Greg Meriwether from WAFB.

The Arc of East Ascension is a non-profit that provides for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. According to Honorary Chairwoman Donna Britt, their vision is to see a future for people with disabilities that is "all-inclusive and ensures a quality of life through education, employment, family/community involvement, housing, recreation, and access to services."

Sponsorships range from $10,000 to $250 dollars. Packages in the upper tiers offer some exquisite perks. Choose what works for you and your business at the website.

There will be twelve volunteer dancers this year, according to President of the Arc of East Ascension Allison Hudson. Ascension Parish Schools, Gulf Coast Area Mapping, Gonzales Police Department, VIP Sales and Marketing, and Rep. Ken Brass are a few of the businesses and local leaders this year's volunteers represent.

"Thank you to all the dancers our wonderful community and Kamal with Kamal’s Kafe for being a wonderful host and sponsor for the 2nd year," Morris said. "My heart is dancing with joy, the event just keeps getting better and better!"
