National Kidney Foundation hosts 12th annual Kidney Walk

On Saturday, April 14, over 500 walkers will step up for the 12th Annual Baton Rouge Kidney Walk and help raise awareness and funds to support the fight against kidney disease in Louisiana.
“This walk will help many others take the lifesaving step of getting their kidneys checked,” said Tracey Eldridge, Community Development and Programs Manager. “By participating in the Kidney Walk, we're helping sound the alert that anyone with high blood pressure, diabetes or a family history of kidney disease should get tested for kidney disease."
The Kidney Walk is a non-competitive 2/3 mile stroll that raises funds to fight kidney disease through prevention, advocacy and education. In the eight parishes surrounding Baton Rouge, over 2,000 individuals are being treated for kidney failure, and over 500 are awaiting kidney transplants.
The Kidney Walk will take place at Highland Road Community Park Grand Pavilion, 14024 Highland Road in Baton Rouge. Onsite registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the Walk starts at 10:00 a.m. Walkers can participate as individuals or form teams with family, friends or colleagues. The Walk will also feature a Wellness area, a children’s fun zone, live entertainment, food and healthy snacks. Walkers are encouraged to fundraise for the event. Those interested in getting involved or supporting a walker can visit www.kidneywalk.org.
The National Kidney Foundation is dedicated to the prevention of kidney disease, improving the health and well-being of patients and families affected by this disease and increasing the availability of all organs for transplantation.
