EASL recognizes winners at meeting

The East Ascension Sportsman’s League recognized the winners of the 2017 hunting and fishing competitions at Monday night’s meeting. The gathering was held at Chef KD’s on Highway 74. After a dinner of chicken alfredo, the awards were handed out to the overall winners from last year.

In the Big Bass contest, Mark Vellenuve took third place with his 5.64-pound bass caught last April in Lake Claiborne. Jamie Broussard came in second place for her 9.23-pound bass caught in Lake Caney last April. Kyle Melancon was the big winner with a 9.37-pound bass caught last June.

In the Big Speck contest, Goosie Guice came in third for a trout caught last June weighing in a 3.58 pounds. Jacob Lass took second place for his 3.9-pound trout caught in August. Barney Gautreau came in first with a 6.86-pound trout caught in Grand Isle.

There were three categories of winners in the Big Buck contest. Rodney Dupuy was the out of state winner for a 131-pound buck got in Woodville, Mississippi. The Louisiana winner was Cody Braud, who shot a 114-pound buck in the state. Cole Legnon was the youth winner for his 124-pound buck killed in Texas.
