A traditional Gonzales Garden Club Christmas

The ladies of the Gonzales Garden Club met at Priscilla Monson’s home in Prairieville for their traditional Christmas gathering on December 6. A brief business meeting was held to address public garden maintenance projects, a lifetime membership presentation, club awards, and plans for the January meeting.
Club members donated a basket of canned goods to the Carpenter’s Chapel United Methodist Church Food Pantry. Monson, Marilyn Oubre, Patti Mouton, Donna Reynaud, Marilyn Rice and Mable Savoy hosted the event; everyone brought a dish to share. The potluck dinner was a holiday feast of gumbo and potato salad, baked ham, casseroles, vegetables, and desserts.
As tradition would have it, Myra Mire had each member choose a word card of “T’was the Night Before Christmas” phrases, then she read the poem to the group. When the words on each member’s card were read, that member chose a gift to open. It was a thoughtful way to begin the holiday season. Each member also received a Thoughts from Bully paperback, a collection of short stories by Mike Strong, as a memento from the Ascension Magazine publisher for the club’s community service.
The Gonzales Garden Club is federated by the Louisiana Garden Club Federation and the National Garden Clubs, Inc.
