St. Amant High School graduating senior Amaria Everson of Gonzales was recently recognized for her exceptional academic achievements by The National Society of High School Scholars. She was among the many high school students across the world to be selected to become a member of the esteemed organization.

"On behalf of NSHSS, I am honored to recognize the hard work, sacrifice and commitment that Amara has demonstrated to achieve this exceptional level of academic excellence," said NSHSS Founder and Chairman Claes Nobel. "Amaria is now a member of a unique community of scholars- a community that represents our very best hope for the future."

Everson said when she was notified that she had been selected into the organization, she was very happy and initially taken aback, as it was a surprise to her and her family. The teen added that by being recognized by the NSHSS, it shows that she was great work ethic and will help in her future endeavors.

"I will be able to get more connections into the world," she said. "This is internationally credited and is very well known."

The 17-year old plans to attend Alcorn State University in Lorman, Miss., in the Fall where she will study Biology.
