Janis Hernandez Receives Name of Fame Award
Baton Rouge –Janis Hernandez, a Gonzales resident, was recently named recipient of the 2017 Name of Fame award by the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association (LRTA). Hernandez was honored during LRTA’s statewide Spring Meeting held in Alexandria on April 26.
Hernandez retired in 1995 after 22 years with the Jefferson Parish School System, the majority of which time she was a Special Education teacher for students with mild/moderate disabilities.
She also trained teachers as part of the school system’s Community Skills Program. Hernandez has served as LRTA District IV President and Vice President, and has served on the state Bylaws Committee; she currently serves as Second Vice President of LRTA and is chair of the state Budget Committee.
The LRTA Name of Fame Award was created in 2002 to honor Louisiana’s retired teachers for their leadership, organizational achievements and community involvement. The Association congratulates Hernandez on receiving this prestigious award.
