Gonzales hosts 49th Annual Jambalaya Festival

Gonzales hosted the 49th annual Jambalaya Festival over Memorial Day weekend, welcoming thousands of visitors from surrounding areas for a weekend of live entertainment, carnival rides and jambalaya.

The festival showcased over 20 bands from different genres, with headliners including the Chee Weez, Don Rich, Sammy Kershaw, Foret Tradition, LeRoux and Mike Broussard & Night Train.

Throughout the weekend, over 100 cooks competed to earn the title of 2016 World Champion. Heats were held over the course of two days, with the last day of the festival reserved for semi-finals and finals for the jambalaya champion. This year, the World Champion title was awarded to Robert "Hoss" Reine, who is also the 2014 winner.

First place winners for the mini-pot cook-off included Brock Melancon, under 12 division; Kade Thacker, junior division; Blair Alexis, woman’s division; Vance Venable, men’s division; and Jared Bourque for the 2016 Champs of Champs.
