Ascension Parish President Kenny Matassa proclaimed May, 2016 as Older Americans Month in Ascension Parish. Matassa is urging all residents to take the time to acknowledge older adults and the people who serve them as vital individuals who greatly contribute to our community.

Our community can provide opportunities to enrich the lives of individuals of all ages by: promoting and engaging in activity, wellness, and social involvement; emphasizing home- and community-based services that support independent living; and ensuring community members can benefit from the contributions and experience of older adults,” Matassa stated in the proclamation.

Matassa presented the proclamation to Darlene Schexnayder, executive director with the Ascension Council on Aging, Inc. Schexnayder was joined by residents who enjoy the services and fellowship the Council on Aging provides.
