3 Things to do this week

Brandie Richardson @B_Lifestyles
  1.  1.Attend 4-H's annual Stick Horse Rodeo: On Jan. 15 at 6:30 p.m., the annual Ascension Parish 4-H Stick Horse Rodeo will take place at the 4-H building at Lamar-Dixon Expo Center. Registration begins at 6 p.m. Open to all youth 11 years old and younger. The classes are Buckin' Horse, Buckin' Bull, Flag Race and Barrel Racing. Entry fee is $5.
  2.  2.Go to a book signing: We've all become used to seeing football teams fielding 11 players, but that has not always been universal. During the Great Depression, small rural schools had to develop six-man teams to make up for shortages in eligible players. These six-man teams were common in Louisiana, and in town like Dutchtown, Denham Springs, Brusly and St. Gabriel. On Jan. 19 at 6:30 p.m. Coach Barrett Murphy will tell stories from his new book Barefoot, Bloodied, and Bruised: The Story of Louisiana Six-Man Football at the Ascension Parish Library in Galvez.
  3.  3.Sign up for a course on healthy living:  Healthcare professionals from St. Elizabeth Hospital will teach the eight week course about healthy living, which will include both seminar and physical activity. Participants will receive support and motivation, as well as education on healthy living strategies to cultivate positive health choices through lifestyle and behavior change. If you are interested in completing the course, call St. Elizabeth Community Education at (225) 621-2906 to register.

If you have an event you would like to submit, send your first and last name, and info about the event to Brichardson@weeklycitizen.com
