SORRENTO - The Sorrento Lions Club is making a comeback and looking to add new members to its charitable organization.

The organization came close to closing its door earlier this year, but with the help of some fresh faces the club was able to rebuild in August.

“A group of us got together with the three last members and spoke with them about seeing if we could bring back some positivity to the Lions Club and awareness for our town and the Lions Eye Foundation and the crippled children's club,” said Sorrento Lions Club Vice President Heather Templet.

One of the things the organization will be bringing back is the popular Boucherie Festival, which hasn't taken place in over four years. Though the festival will not be as big as it once was, it will still bring awareness to Sorrento and the Lions Club, who hosted the event every year.

“The Lions Club is working on a smaller scaled down version of the Boucherie to get back started,” Templet continued. “We are hoping to get that back this October. It was a big deal for our town and our hope is to get that back.”

The club has 18 members, though they are always interested in having more join their cause. For those who are interested in joining, you can send an email to Sorrentolalionsclub@gmail.com, visit their Facebook page at Sorrento Lions Club- Louisiana or go to one of their monthly meetings.

“Anyone is welcome to just come to a meeting and find out what we are about and learn more about us,” Templet said.

Meetings are held the fourth Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the Lions Club building, located at 44242 Joseph St. in Sorrento.

The Lions Club aims to meet the needs of the local community and does so through various fundraisers and events. The club helps people who cannot afford to get eye screenings and glasses and also helps send children with special needs and diabetes to the Louisiana Lions Camp near DeRidder.
