Cooking to Live or Living to Cook: Quick Camp Style Hamburger Steaks

In Louisiana when deciding what to cook, the time of year plays a large role in the menu choices. Time is a big issue these days. Everybody's in a hurry, no matter where they are, home, camp, vacation, or work. I've created a quick comfort food recipe for everybody in a hurry, but slow down when you eat it.

Quick Camp Style Hamburger Steaks

Ingredients:

-2lbs ground beef

-1 egg beaten

-1 cup instant oatmeal

-2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning (Blanchard’s Blend)

-2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

-1 teaspoon garlic powder

-1 tbls. Veg oil

-3 lbs. onions, peeled, sliced in thin rings

-2 pks brown gravy mix, follow directions on pk

Directions:

  1. In a large skillet heat oil and brown about 10 minutes, remove set aside.

  2. In large bowl combine ground beef, egg, oatmeal, seasoning, Worcestershire and garlic. Mix with hands and form large patties (flatten out they will swell).

  3. Return skillet to stove over medium/high heat and cook patties on both sides until done.

  4. Pour pack gravy over meat and add onions. Stir lightly and cover.

  5. If cooking larger batches all ingredients can be placed in a large dutch oven at this point.

  6. Cook on low for 20 minutes. Serve over mashed potatoes with a side of sweet peas.

  7. Enjoy and slow down a little bit.
