Guest speaker, Brian Girardot with Community Coffee, gave a brief history of the Baton Rouge-based company at the September 9meeting of the Gonzales Rotary Club.

Girardot explained that Community Coffee has been in operation since 1919.  It is the largest family-owned brand Coffee company in America.  Community Coffee, he said, is unusual in the coffee business in that it  is vertically integrated offering a broad spectrum of outlets from retail sales in stores, distribution in restaurants, work-place coffee service, coffee houses (CC’s Community Coffee Houses), and even internet sales.

While people in the state of Louisiana are very familiar with the Community brand, they may be surprised to know that Community Coffee is now in 20 states.  As recently as 2011,Girardot said, it was in only eight states. Colorado and California are big markets for the company and the company has grown tremendously in the state of Florida recently.  Community Coffee currently employs more than 700 people.
