Catholic High School Senior Cole Stafford, a Gonzales native, has signed to run cross country and track at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Stafford is a three- year varsity letterman and has received numerous honors in both cross country and track.

In cross country, Stafford was this year’s 5A State Champion and led Catholic High to the State Title. He ran the fastest time recorded on the state meet course by any runner in any classification. And, he was undefeated in every race for the entire season. Stafford was a two-time member of the All Class All State Cross Country Team and three-time member of the All Metro Team and named Most Outstanding Runner this year.

Stafford was also honored in January as the State Gatorade Cross Country Runner of the Year.

In track, Stafford’s honors are just as impressive.  He was the Indoor State Champion in the 3200 in 2011.  In outdoor track, Stafford was the State Champion in the 3200 in 2010 and State Champion in the 1600 and 3200 in 2011.  He was named to the All Sate Track team since his sophomore year.

“ I chose ULL because I like the coaches and the program.  It felt right for me, “commented Stafford.

He plans to major in pre-med and attend medical school.

“This is a great honor for Cole.  He is a very deserving young man who has worked hard and achieved great success,” commented Head Cross Country and Track Coach Pete Boudreaux ’59.

Cole is the son of Clay and Aurora Stafford.  He has a younger brother, Preston.
