Safety Officer Mike Breaux with the St. Amant Volunteer Fire Department was recognized at the Ascension Parish Council meeting on Jan. 19 for actions he took while responding to a house fire recently.

Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez presented Breaux with a parish certificate of recognition. According to reports, on the morning of Jan. 15, Breaux responded to the location and removed a resident from the residence just before an explosion occurred.

“There’s not a day that goes by when we get called and I hear that pager go off,” Breaux said. “We get up all hours of the night and morning to protect our community, and with great honor, I will continue to so.”
