Stafford honored by Gonzales Council

Cole Stafford is presented with a Proclamation from the City of Gonzales by Gonzales Mayor Barney Arceneaux.

Monday night’s Gonzales City Council meeting saw local resident Cole Stafford being recognized for his work in the field of athletics.

Stafford, a Senior at Catholic High?School in?Baton?Rouge, was at the meeting to receive his certificate.

Stafford has won a number of track and field accolades throughout his high school career, and in his Senior year alone has achieved the following:

• 2011 LHSAA?Division 1 3200 Meter Indoor State Champion

• 2011 LHSAA 5A 3200 Meter Outdoor State Champion

• 2011 LHSAA 5A 1600 Meter Outdoor State Champion

• 2011 LHSAA 5A Cross Country State Champion

• 2011 5A Team Cross Country State Championship

• 2011 5A Team Outdoor Track State Championship

•  2011 5A All State Selection

• 2011 LHSAA 5A C0-outstanding Outdoor Track Runner of the Year

• 2011 LHSAA?5A Outdoor Cross Country Runner of the Year

• 2011 All?Metro Cross Country Runner of the Year

• 2011 ESPN Ride Top 25 High School?Cross Country National Honorable Mention

Stafford’s father, Clay, was at the meeting, and was proud of his son’s accomplishments.

“I sit in these meetings in the capacity of City Clerk, and am always moved when someone is honored for achieving something. To see my son stand up with the Mayor and be appreciated for all the effort he has put into his chosen athletic passion is such a privilege for a father. I am so unbelievably proud of him,” he said.

Stafford is currently looking at different colleges and Universities, where he will continue in the area of track and field.
