Dane Thibodeaux receives vocal scholarship
East Ascension High junior, Dane Thibodeaux was awarded a $1,250 scholarship to attend Westminster Conservatory of Music’s Summer Vocal Institute. The program is held at the Westminster College of the Arts in Princeton, New Jersey. Thibodeaux will spend two weeks, under the direction of Dr. Amanda Quist, focusing on college-level choral singing while participating in daily voice lessons, performance training, audition techniques and elective classes such as conducting, music theory and music theater.
Thibodeaux was recommended to the program by his teacher at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA), Rendell James. Thibodeaux splits his time five days a week between EA and NOCCA where he spends a half day at each school. He is excited to have received this honor and looks forward to attending Westminster from July 3.
Thibodeaux has had a successful year in his vocal pursuits. Among his accomplishments, he received a Superior rating at the State LMEA Solo/Ensemble festival, Perfect Score and Overall vocal winner at the Star power Talent Competition and Soloist at NOCCA’s Festival of Spirituals. This scholarship will allow him to continue to pursue his goals as a performer. Although the scholarship pays for the program, he is asking for donations to pay for travel and other expenses.
