Girl Scouts hold fundraising luncheon for Camp Marydale

Staff reports

Camp Marydale has a special place in the hearts of thousands of Girl Scouts from across the Baton Rouge community.

This much loved Girl Scout camp near St. Francisville will be the recipient of funds raised during Girl Scouts Louisiana East’s spring fundraising luncheon being held Thursday, March 3, from noon-1 p.m. (meet and greet at 11:30 a.m.) at the Lod Cook Alumni Center, 3838 W. Lakeshore Drive in Baton Rouge.

Luncheon sponsors are Valero St. Charles Refinery, Capital One, Little Brownie Bakers, and Baton Rouge Printing.

Christy Oliver Reeves, executive director of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation and former Chief Executive Officer of the Girl Scouts-Audubon Council, will serve as Mistress of Ceremonies.

“Whenever Camp Marydale comes up in conversation, the face of the person I’m talking to just lights up,” said Marianne Addy, vice president of Communications and Fund Development at the local Girl Scout council. “There are so many adult women who absolutely loved camping at Marydale as young Girl Scouts.

This luncheon is a wonderful opportunity for alumnae and volunteers to hear all that’s going on at camp, and know their support will be going to defray the cost for upkeep of Camp Marydale.” She said the 400-acre camp has been enjoyed by thousands of Girl Scouts since it was dedicated by the Audubon legacy council in 1949.

Table captains, attendees who host a table of their friends, are needed for the luncheon as well as additional corporate sponsors. The luncheon is free to attend, with a suggested minimum donation of $50.
