RRAA to host March into Art

Donna Braud, RRAA Publicity Chairman

March is dedicated to the “Creative Youth of Louisiana” as River Region Art Association announces the 2011 “March into Art” Show for age divisions 12-17 and 11 and under. Prizes and ribbons are awarded for each age group: lst--$25; 2nd--$15; 3rd--$10; with ribbons only for Honorable Mention. The four categories include: painting, drawing, photography and three dimensional art. Entry fee is $1 per piece of art with a limit of two pieces per student per category. A student may enter art in each category if desired. No specific subject matter.

Take in for the art will be March 3, 4, and 5. The River Region Art Center in Gonzales is open to receive the entries from 10 a.m-4 p.m. each of those days. Teachers are welcome to bring in group entries from their schools. The entry form can be printed from the RRAA website at www.artqumbo.org or they will be available at the Art Center.

A special Louisiana Art Spirit Award is presented to the school with the most participation showing spirit for the arts. Last year, St. James Gifted School in St. James Parish received this award at “March into Art” 2010. It will be interesting to see who wins for “Art Spirit” this year. All schools are eligible.

Prize money and ribbons will be awarded beginning at 3 p.m. at the Children’s Creativity Day on Saturday, March 26 at the River Region Art Center, located at 1835 Magnolia Ave. in Gonzales. The activities for the Children’s Creativity Day begin at 1 until 3 p.m. with various free creative art stations under the trees along with fun and prizes. The March into Art Awards will be announced at 3 p.m. with refreshments following.

A nice perk for the winners this year will be having their art displayed for public viewing at Community Coffee in Prairieville and Barnes & Noble Bookstore at Perkins Rowe in Baton Rouge throughout April.
