Prairieville Middle cheerleaders combine beauty and brains
In addition to weekly practices, football and basketball games, pep rallies, and other appearances, the Prairieville Middle School Cheerleaders make high achievement a top priority. With an overall 3.8 grade point average for the squad, these ladies combine beauty and brains.
The Prairieville Middle school cheer squad brought home several team and individual awards during the 2010 UCA Summer Camp held June 8-11, 2010 on the campus of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.
The UCA camp, sponsored by the Universal Cheerleaders Association and Varsity, consisted of 4 days of intense instruction on cheers, stunts, formations, safety, choreography, team building, conflict resolution, and other topics.
Over 70 middle school, junior varsity, and varsity squads from Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, and Florida attended the camp. Classes were divided according to ability level. This assures that each member us challenged at just the right level for them individually. Squads were critiqued on home dance and fight song routines, cheers, sideline and game time performances, extreme routine performances, and overall spirit by UCA staff and peers.
In addition, individual cheerleaders were given the opportunity to compete in the UCA “Jump Off” competition and UCA “All American Tryouts”. Winners are named to the All American squad and may have the opportunity to perform in the Houston Thanksgiving Day Parade, Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade, or the UCA/UDA Thanksgiving Tour at the Walt Disney World Resort. 8th graders Brielle Moureau and Kayla Weigal, co-captain, were both named to the UCA All-American Squad.
PVM brought home 2 UCA spirit sticks; 4 blue ribbons for sideline evaluation, extreme evaluations, cheer final evaluations, and extreme final evaluations; 3 gold ribbons for cheer final evaluations, dance final evaluation, and sideline final evaluation; and trophies for Cheer Extreme 2nd place and 1st place for and overall performance.
