Lunar eclipse falls on Winter Solstice

When Galvez photographer Renee LeBauve photographed these shots of the moon during a lunar eclipse on Dec. 21, it marked the first time since 1683 that a full eclipse and the Winter Solstice occurred on the same night.  The next lunar eclipse in North America will occur in 2014, but it won’t be on a solstice day.
