Volunteer Ascension’s ConnecTeen Kick-Off a success

Volunteer Ascension held its ConnecTeens summer registration meeting at the Gonzales Branch of the Ascension Parish Library on May 27. Over 45 local teens and parents were in attendance. This popular program is geared to introduce young adults to volunteerism within the community.
“The ConnecTeen program is such a great resource for our youth as well as our community. It enables our teens to connect with a wide variety of local agencies that offer summer volunteer opportunities that appeal to the kids on a personal level. We have teens that are interested in medicine and have signed up to volunteer at St. Elizabeth. Those interested in art are onboard with River Region Art. Doing what you like, while being of service to others, it’s a great way to give back.” states Sherry Denig, executive director.
Agencies that are a part of Volunteer Ascension’s ConnecTeens Program include: Ascension Council on Aging, Ascension Parish Library, Azalea Lakes Assisted Living, the Fellowship Center, the River Region Art Gallery, St. Elizabeth Hospital, Salvation Army and Special Tuesdays. The teens will also be assisting with Volunteer Ascension’s School Tools and School Uniform Program this summer. Meeting new people, learning skills, and giving back to the community is what’s going on this summer for members of ConnecTeens!
Over 35 teens have contacted Volunteer Ascension so far, and it’s not too late for others to sign up. Call 644-7655 to register now.
