Ascension Community Theatre prepares for ‘Little Shop of Horrors’

Ascension Community Theatre’s “Little Shop of Horrors” begins a run of shows Feb. 25.
The endearing musical with book and lyrics by Howard Ashman and music by Alan Menken is about a hapless florist shop worker who raises a plant that feeds on human blood. The music is in the style of early 1960s rock and roll, doo-wop and early Motown, includes several show-stoppers like “Skid Row (Downtown),” “Somewhere That’s Green” and “Suddenly, Seymour,” as well as the title song.
Crystal, Ronnette and Chiffon, characters named after female doo-wop girl groups in the 1960s, set the scene for mayhem and hilarity.
Showtimes are 7 p.m. for evening performances and 3 p.m. for the Sunday matinee. The show runs Feb. 25-28 and March 4-6.
All shows will be staged at the Pasqua Theater on Felicity Street in Gonzales.
