Broadway star returns to Center Stage

Staff reports
Megan Campanile has been cast as an understudy to Ariel in the Broadway production of “The Little Mermaid.” Shown to her left is Larry Schexnaydre, who owns Center Stage Performing Arts Academy. Campanile is a former Center Stage star.

Center Stage Performing Arts Academy will hold a one-night-only special event, A Night of Stars, which will feature local Broadway performer Megan Campanile.

The performance will take place Saturday, Jan. 2 in the Dutchtown High School Cafetorium at 7:30 p.m. A Night of Stars honors the ten year history of the academy and the performers who have helped Center Stage shine for a decade.

The event will include a cabaret-style performance with a dessert reception to follow, allowing the cast and audience to mingle.

A Night of Stars will feature a performance by Campanile, an alumnus of Center Stage, who has recently ended her run on Broadway in Disney’s The Little Mermaid and is currently on the national tour of The Little House on the Prairie starring Melissa Gilbert.

Center Stage is a performing arts studio in the Gonzales area, offering classes in dance, voice, musical theatre, acting, piano and guitar.

The academy has also produced 10 summer musicals and 10 years of summer camp programs, most notably Kids on Broadway.

Center Stage is also home to the award-winning performance group, The STARS Company. A portion of the proceeds will go to support the STARS Company and this summer’s trip to the Access Broadway’s National Competition in Orlando, Fla.

A Night of Stars will also feature performances from past Center Stage alumni, including Austin Babin, Zac Denham, Cody Ikerd, Cali McQueen, Taylor Morgan, Mandi Ridgdell, Molly Rushing, Bradley Sanchez, Bryan Songy, Kara Tramonte and Lauren Waguespack.

Tickets are $20.
