Veillon cast in ‘The Wiz’
Celeste Veillon, an Ascension Community Theatre veteran, will play Glinda in New Venture Theatre’s upcoming presentation of “The Wiz.”
The show will be staged at Independence Park Theatre, 7800 Independence Blvd., Baton Rouge.
“The Wiz” is an adaptation of “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.” The book is by William F. Brown and music and lyrics by Charlie Smalls. The original 1975 Broadway production won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
A film adaptation was released in 1978. It is the retelling of Dorothy’s visit to the Land of Oz.
Performances are set for Oct 15-18, all at 7:30 p.m.; Oct. 22 (school performance) at 9:30 a.m.; Oct. 22-25, all at 7:30 p.m.; and Oct. 24 at 2 p.m.
The cast includes Dione Smith as Aunt Em, Jessica Cater as Dorothy, Sean George as the Lion, Cynthia Woodlief as Addaperle, Avery Wilson as The Scarecrow, Brian Jordan as the Tinman, John Wesley as the Wiz, Rosalind Reynard as Evillene, Kylan Borskey and Chauncey Johnson as Toto, Divya Rachakonda as Field Mouse and Jason Burden as the Gatekeeper.
The Munchkins include Jeffery Patrick, D’Jaiya Robins, Zhimon Binghom, Samaria Smith, Jarius Wells, Jada Delpit, Alexandra Talbert and Morgan Georgetown.
Featured dancers are Robyn Oguinye, Chelsea Handy, Madeline Marva, Infiniti Eglin, Shaun Warner, Dwayne Norwood, Stevie Bosley, Ashle’ Handy, Leonard Harris Jr. and Mariah Georgetown.
Featured singers are Suzette Lange, Ronald Smith and Christopher Woodlief.
