Inga Frederic Thrasher, 1980 graduate of East Ascension High School, has been nominated for an Emmy along with the three-person hairstyling crew of Saturday Night Live.

Inga Frederic Thrasher, a 1980 graduate of East Ascension High School, has been nominated for an Emmy along with co-workers on the television show “Saturday Night Live.”

Thrasher is an SNL additional hairstylist in the three-person crew that oversees hairstyling and wigs for the show’s numerous skits. The trio was nominated for Outstanding Hairstyling for a Multi-Camera Series or Special.

The trio will travel to Los Angeles Sept. 12 for the announcements of the Emmy technical winners.

Thrasher’s parents Frank and Carol Frederic of Gonzales will be on a camping trip at that time, but are very excited nonetheless over their daughter’s success.

“We’re very proud of her and very surprised about her being nominated for an Emmy,” Carol Frederic said.

After graduating from LSU in journalism/advertising, Thrasher set out for New York City as an aspiring singer and dancer, Frederic said. When times got tough, Thrasher  took up an offer from her hairdresser who said he would put her to work if she first went to beauty school.

Thrasher worked as a hairdresser on Broadway and eventually joined the hit SNL television show.

After eight years, Carol Frederic said her daughter has lots of stories to tell.

“When Peyton Manning (Indianapolis Colts quarterback) was guest host on the show, Inga was his hairdresser,” Carol said. “Because he is so tall, and she is so short, she joked with him ‘You have to get lower if I’m going to fix your hair.’”

Thrasher’s two daughters, Olivia, 12, and Anna 10, and her husband Mark, live in Leonia, N.J. where they all took part in this year’s summer Musical “Annie Get Your Gun.” Thrasher was choreographer, Mark, a musician, played in the orchestra, and the girls were in the show and worked backstage.

“It was a family kind of thing,” Carol said.

The Thrashers return to Gonzales usually every other Christmas, and for special events like Carol and Frank’s 50th wedding anniversary and class reunions.

Sometimes the Frederics go to New York for visits. “We’ve been able to see Broadway shows like “Guys and Dolls” where Inga was the hairstylist and Mark played in the orchestra,” Carol said. “She has taken me backstage on some of the shows.”

With SNL, Thrasher works 13 1/2 hour days from Thursday to Saturday when the show is done.

On Saturday there are two dress rehearsals that give the hair stylists time to make final adjustments on the wigs used in the skits.

Carol said her daughter also goes out on location in the city to do shorts and vignettes for the show.

The Emmy nominated SNL episode is hosted by Josh Brolin, features Sarah Palin and Tina Fey, and includes a rap song about the former Alaska governor complete with Eskimos and a moose dancing.
