Center Stage offers stage master class

Center Stage Performing Arts Academy will offer stage master classes with Trey Gillen May 19-20.

Currently on a Broadway tour of” Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,” Gillen will cover different styles of dance within musical theater. 

Students will also have the opportunity to learn original choreography from Broadway shows such as “Movin’ Out” and “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.”

Gillen, a native of Baton Rouge, received a BFA from the Julliard School. 

Dance companies to his credit are The Icelandic National Ballet (Reykjavik, Iceland), Los Angeles Chamber Ballet, Alwin Nikolais Dance Theatre, Pascal Rioult Dance Theatre, Mark Dendy Dance Theatre, Buglisi/Foreman Dance and Antigravity, Inc. 

Gillen has also been choreographic assistant to Lila York and Lynne Hockney Taylor creating ballets for The San Francisco Ballet, Boston Ballet, Houston Ballet, Atlanta Ballet, Tulsa Ballet, The Royal Birmingham Ballet and The Juilliard School. 

His Broadway debut began with “Movin’ Out,” choreographed by Twyla Tharp with the music of Billy Joel.

Other Broadway and regional credits include Barnum, Candide, Damn Yankees, Most Happy Fella, and Pirates Of Penzance.

Currently he is on the first National Tour of “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” and is looking forward to the fall where he will be the Associate Choreographer for the new broadway musical “Angels.”

The Master Class for ages 13 and older is Tuesday, May 19 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Class for ages 7-12 is Wednesday, May 20 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

The cost of the class is $20. Students are asked to wear appropriate dance attire and girls are asked to have hair pulled back in a pony tail.
