Dia de los Niños, or the Day of the Children

Dia de los Niños, or the Day of the Children, is a gift from the Latino community to all youngsters. This holiday celebrates and honors the children, who represent the hopes and dreams of every community. To honor all children of Ascension Parish, the library has planned an evening storytime filled with bilingual stories, songs, and a craft.

The Ascension Parish Library’s Dia de los Niños celebration is scheduled for Thursday, April 30 at 6 p.m. at the Gonzales location. This program is designed for children ages two and above. For more information on this program, contact the Ascension Parish Library in Gonzales at 647-3955.

Anime Club meeting

The library will be hosting their monthly anime club.  This month’s featured anime title is Bleach, Vol. 2. This club is free and open to any teen interested in anime and manga. During each club meeting teens will screen anime, review anime and manga, listen to J-Rock and J-Pop, as well as get in touch with the Japanese culture. The program will be held on April 30 at 5 p.m. at the Ascension Parish Library in Galvez.

Mother’s Day Tea Party

Kids, bring your mothers to the Ascension Parish Library in Gonzales for the annual Mother’s Day Tea Party. Come out to hear fun and amusing stories of the Five Little Monkeys, make a fun craft, and enjoy some refreshments.

This program will be held on Tuesday, May 5, at 6:30 p.m. This program is free and open to mothers and kids of all ages. Space is limited. For more information or to register, please call the Ascension Parish Library in Gonzales at 647-3955.

Wizard of Oz Tea Party

We’re off to see the Wizard with a wonderful Wizard of Oz Mother’s Day Tea Party at Ascension Parish Library in Donaldsonville. Come fly over the rainbow with the library as they share tea, poetry, stories and games Saturday, May 9 at 10 a.m. Follow the yellow brick road to lots of fun, smiles, and a very special finale. The Mother’s Day Tea Party is designed for children from ages 3 to 10 and their mothers and/or grandmothers. Free seminar aids in starting your own business

Ascension Parish Library invites all interested persons to attend a free small business seminar, Starting and Financing a Small Business. It is designed for individuals who want to learn what it takes to start and run a successful small business. The program will focus on helping participants learn how to determine the feasibility of their idea as well as how to obtain a small business loan. The speaker is Gregory Spann, Director of the Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southern University and A&M College, Baton Rouge. The seminar will be held at the library in Gonzales, Tuesday, April 28, at 6:30 p.m. Advance registration is required. Call 647-3955 today.

Free small business consulting

Ascension Parish Library offers free small business consulting on the second Monday of each month at the library in Galvez, 40300 Hwy. 42, Prairieville.  Persons wanting to start or improve a small business receive a private, two-hour consultation designed to provide professional help in areas of business planning, financing, marketing, and accounting.

This service is provided by the Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southern University, Baton Rouge and is funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
