Sehon captures AQHA championships

Staff reports
Sidney Sehon recently won the title of AQHA National High Point Barrel Racing Champion, 18 and under age division.

Sidney Sehon, 13, is in the seventh grade at Faith Academy Christian School. She has been competing in the sport of barrel racing and pole bending since she was 6-years-old.

On a local level Sehon participates in 4-H sanctioned horse shows and is a member of the Louisiana High School Rodeo Association - Wranger Division. She competes throughout the year in Wrangler division rodeos for qualification into the year-end finals. She competed in March at the LHSRA – Wranger Division finals that were held at Lamar-Dixon.

When not competing locally, Sehon and her horses “hit the road” traveling across mostly southern states for larger competitions to include AQHA shows on her quest to qualify for the most popular show of all, the AQHA Youth World Show held in Oklahoma City, Okla.

This year has been a year for Sehon and her two horses, “The Bikini Scandal” and “Intrusives Bolo Bar,” in that she just recently won the title of AQHA National High Point Barrel Racing Champion, 18 and under age division. This was a competition between Louisiana, Kentucky and Ohio. She was also awarded year-end Barrel Racing and Pole Bending Champion for Louisiana and Mississippi in the 13 and under age division.

When Sehon is not traveling and competing with her horses she is an active “Crusader” in that she is on the basketball team, volleyball team and is treasurer for the 4-H club.
