Health education classes offered

Nature’s Wellness, 2610 S. Ruby, corner of Hwy. 30, is offering a free health education class Tuesday, April 21 at 6:30 p.m. The topic will be on yeast overgrowth creating health issues that range from unexplained weight gain to restless leg syndrome. Two free health forums are offered every month on the first and third Tuesday of the month. For more information or directions, call 647-6879.

CASA open house April 25

Join the Court Appointed Special Advocates staff for their Open House Saturday, April 25, from 9 a.m.-noon at the Gonzales office located at 1026 E. Worthey Rd., Suite C.

Gonzales Rotary Club hosting golf tournament

The Gonzales Rotary Club will host a four-person scramble golf tournament Tuesday, April 28 at the Lakes Course at Pelican Point.

Registration will begin at 11:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.

Lunch will be provided prior to the start and the dinner/awards ceremony will follow the completion of the tournament. Food and drinks will be served on the course as well.

The cost is as follows: Corporate Sponsor $1,000 (includes a four-person team, a hole sponsor sign and recognition at the tournament); four-person team $500; per player cost and/or a hole sponsor sign is $125.

VFW/Auxiliary 3693 Beauty Pageant

The VFW/Auxiliary 3693 Beauty Pageant will be held May 3 for girls ages 5-20 years old.

Registration will be April 29-30 from 3-6 p.m., and May 1-2 from 3-7 p.m.

Family and Friends Picnic

Family and Friends Picnic will be held Sunday, May 17 at Dutchtown Baptist Church, 36495 C. Braud Road, Prairieville, at starting at 4 p.m. The public is invited join in for a Sunday afternoon of food, friends and fun.

Leadership Ascension accepting applications

The Ascension Chamber of Commerce is now  taking applications for its next Leadership Ascension class.

Like similar programs nationwide, Leadership Ascension is designed to develop responsible and informed community leaders. 

Recognized and emerging leaders in the community are selected to represent the diverse demographic of the Ascension Parish community. 

The ten-month program begins with a two-day retreat. From September to May, full-day sessions devoted to such topics as diversity, education, healthcare and government are held on the third Thursday of each month at various locations around the parish. 

The program ends with a two-day closing retreat which concludes the class year. The retreat allows classmates to review their experiences, share their thoughts on Ascension Parish and present class projects that are developed throughout the year.

Applications for the Leadership Alumni Class of 2010 are now being accepted.

CASA volunteer training May 12

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers who serve as a powerful voice for abused and neglected children. CASA volunteers are community members appointed by a judge to advocate, on a one-on-one basis with the primary goal of helping a child reach a safe and permanent home.

Senior Citizen Day

On The River set

The annual “Senior Citizen Day on The River” will be held May 14 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at Fred’s On The River, Hwy. 42, Port Vincent.

Seniors will feast on a free lunch prepared by Jimmy Babin and dance to T-Boy Moore and other musicians.

Women’s Council of Greater B.R. to host spring open house

The Women’s Council of Greater Baton Rouge will host their annual spring open house “Tea for Two.” The event will feature light refreshment and the opportunity to get to know the members and learn what else the Women’s Council does for the community of Greater Baton Rouge. It will be held Sunday, May 17 from 2-5 p.m.
