River Region Art Association March Into Art winners presented

With 158 entries representing 28 Louisiana Schools, the Louisiana Art Spirit Award for 2009 March into Art was captured by St. Theresa School in Gonzales.

This is a second win for the artists of St. Theresa School and Art teacher, Janis Ament.

There were entries representing 28 schools for a record breaking art show this year and an awesome competition of artistic Louisiana talent.

The show was judged by landscape and 3-dimensional artist Steve Schneider. Cheers go out to all the art teachers and parents involved in encouraging the children to be creative and compete in the art arena.

Ascension Parish schools competing this year were: Central Middle, Dutchtown Middle, Dutchtown Primary, Lake Elementary, Prairieville Primary, Oak Grove Primary, East Ascension High School, Galvez Middle School, St. Amant Primary, Central Elementary, Prairieville Middle, and St. Theresa School. Livingston parish was represented by French Settlement Elementary.

Baton Rouge Schools participating were: St. George School, LSU Lab School, Glasgow Middle School, BRCVPA, Most Blessed Sacrament School, Westdale Heights Academy, St. Michael High School and several  Home Schooled  in Baton Rouge. St. James Parish was well represented by Lutcher High School and St. James Gifted Center. Zachary was represented by Zachary High School, Copper Mill Elementary, and Northwestern Elementary.  Scheckenburger Middle School represented Kenner.

Winners in Painting for Division 11 and under were: First – Kevin Shen, 9, third grade at Westdale Heights Academic Magnet, Baton Rouge; Second – Kyla D'Arensbourg, 9, fourth grade at Copper Mill Elementary, Zachary; Third – Lauren Wall, 9, third grade at St. Theresa School, Gonzales; and honorable mention – Hunter Ordeneaux, 11, sixth grade at St. Theresa School.

Winners in Painting for Division 12-17 were: First – Laura DeRocher, 12, sixth grade at Galvez Middle School; Second – Kaitlyn Fitch, 17, 11th grade at Lutcher High School, St. James Parish; Third – Aaron Alexis, 13, seventh grade at Prairieville Middle School; and honorable mention – Brian Payton, 14, eighth grade at Galvez Middle School.

Winners in Drawing for Division 11 and under were: First – Vaughn Ehrmen, 9, third grade at Lake Elementary; Second – Ava Landry, 11, fifth grade at St. Theresa School; Third – Mc Kenzie Hebert, 7, first grade at Prairieville Primary; and honorable mention – Ava Valentine, age 7, first grade at Central Elementary, Ascension Parish.

Winners for Drawing for Division 12-17 were: First – Whitney Martin, 16, 11th grade at Lutcher High School, St. James Parish; Second – Moonique Louque, 17, 12th grade at Lutcher High School, St. James Parish; Third – Aaron Alexis, 13, seventh grade at Prairieville Middle School; and honorable mention – Kelsi Demaurex, 14, eighth grade at Central Elementary, Ascension Parish.

Winners for Photography for Division 11 and under were: First – Noah Guttery, 11, fifth grade, Home Schooled, Baton Rouge; Second – Christopher Bourgeois, 11, fifth grade at Galvez Middle School; Third – Grace Guttery, 8, second grade, Home Schooled, Baton Rouge; and honorable mention – Christopher Bourgeois, 11, fifth grade at Galvez Middle School.

Winners for Photography for Division 12-17 were: First – Christine Guttery, 15, 10th grade, Home Schooled, Baton Rouge; Second – Whitney Martin, 16, 11th grade at Lutcher High School, St. James Parish; Third – Alana Rogers, 17, 11th grade at Lutcher High School, St. James Parish; honorable mention – Christine Guttery, 15, 10th grade, Home Schooled, Baton Rouge.

Winners for 3-Dimensional for Division 11 and under: First – Hunter Ordeneaux, 11, sixth grade at St. Theresa School; Second. – Ally Schexnaydre, 10, fourth grade at St. Theresa School; Third – Matthew De Rocher, 10, fifth grade at Galvez Middle; honorable mention – Macy Bush, 6, kindergarten at LSU Lab School, Baton Rouge.

Winners for 3-Dimensional for division 12-17: First – Matthew Hawkins, 14, eighth grade at St. Theresa School; Second – Hailey Manint, 13, seventh grade at Most Blessed Scarament School, Baton Rouge; Third. – Christine Guttery, 15, 10th grade, Home Schooled, Baton Rouge; and honorable mention – Madelyn Fontenot, 12, sixth grade at Most Blessed Sacrament, Baton Rouge.
