ACT announces Reader’s Theatre performance

Nilo Cruz’s “Anna in the Tropics,” is the first play that Ascension Community Theatre has chosen to perform as Reader's Theatre, April 4 at the Pasqua Theater.

A style of performance that is very presentational, Reader’s Theatre actors read from the script as characters in the play, but there is no scenery or theatrical effects to distract the audience. This unique experience is theatre in its purest form and is being directed by Celeste Veillon.

“Anna in the Tropics” won the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for drama and is a story of love and betrayal among factory workers during the Great Depression. This poetic play is set in Ybor City, Fla - the cigar capital of the world - during a time when cigarettes and industrialization pose a threat to the older ways of producing handmade cigars.

The play will be performed one night only at 7 p.m.

Admission is free.

Ascension Community Theatre is located in the Pasqua Theatre 823 Felicity St. in  Gonzales.
