Sorority Chapter hosting Princess Dress Project

Phi Sigma Omega Gonzales Chapter, of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is hosting the Princess Dress Project.

The Princess Dress Project will help female high school students who are financially challenged attend their school’s formal events (proms, semi formals, etc.), by  providing gowns/dresses that they can wear to these events, free of charge. These gowns are being donated by local community members. Students must bring a valid high school ID.

The event will be held Saturday, March 28 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Geismar Community Center, 12060 Hwy. 73. Call 225-810-7675 or 225-278-4111 for information or to make a donation prior to the event. Donations needed are for clean, gently worn formal and semi formal dresses. 

New Hope Apostolic Church to host 5th Sunday Service

The Rev. Glenn E. Henderson Sr. and New Hope Apostolic Church family, 9542 E. Hwy. 936 St. Amant, invite the public to attend their 5th Sunday Service March 29 at 2 p.m.

DTHS Band Jazz Brunch/Silent Auction

The Dutchtown High School Band will host its 3rd Annual Jazz Brunch/Silent Auction Saturday, March 28 and Sunday, March 29 in the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church Community Center.

The bidding for the silent auction will take place from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday, and continue on Sunday from 7 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Some items that we are auctioning include golf, spa, and bed and breakfast packages, dinner for six cooked at your home by Chef KD, LSU memorabilia and more.

The Jazz Brunch will take place from 7 a.m.-10 a.m. on Sunday, and includes pancakes, bacon, juice, coffee, and milk for $5.

For your listening pleasure, the award-winning Dutchtown High School Jazz Ensemble will be performing while the food is served.

Emmanuel Baptist Church, 2129 Hwy. 1 South, Donaldsonville, pastored by Christopher D. Smith Sr. is offering the first “Leap Summer Explosion” Sunday, March 29 from 4-9 p.m.

Wellness Workshop set April 1

Smith Chiropractic Clinic, 525 E. New River Ste. B, Gonzales, will host a free a Brown Bag Wellness Workshop with Dr. Smith. The topic will ve "Herbs for Life,” a 30 minute Wellness Workshop. The event is free to the public and will be at noon.

VFW/Auxiliary 3693 Easter Egg Hunt

The VFW/Auxiliary 3693 will host its annual “Easter Egg Hunt” Sunday, April 5 at 2 p.m. at the VFW post home.

The event is for ages one through 12 years old. Participants are asked to bring an Easter basket for collected eggs.

Weekend for divorced, separated and widowed offered

The next Beginning Experience weekend will be held April 3-5 at the Catholic Life Center, Baton Rouge.

This weekend program for divorced, separated and widowed helps single-again persons emerge from the darkness of grief into the light of a new beginning and, through the help of God, move into the future with renewed hope.

All faiths are welcome to join in this weekend of hope and healing.

Senior Soc Hop

April 24

The Parish of Ascension Recreation and Culture Department has put together a event with the monthly Senior Soc Hop. The next scheduled dance is Friday, April 24 from 1-3 pm at the St. Amant Park Recreation Center.

Residents 50 plus are welcome to attend. Soft drinks are complimentary and the Senior Throw Together Band will entertain seniors.

Cajun Clickers Computer Club

The Cajun Clickers Computer Club, a non-profit computer user group, located at 10120 Red Oak Drive, Baton Rouge, just off Florida Blvd. and Sharp Road, is hosting a “Sharing Tomorrow’s Technology Today” open house April 25 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.. The public is invited to attend. The club welcomes members of all skill levels, from beginners to long-time users. Activities and benefits of membership will be discussed. Everyone is invited to meet our friendly members and sample our relaxed atmosphere for sharing interest in computers and technology.

Awana Go Fish-Free Fishing Derby

An Awana Go Fish-Free Fishing Derby sponsored by Dutchtown Baptist Church will be held Saturday, May 9 from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. The Derby will be held at the Waddill Wildlife Center, 4142 North Flannery Rd, Baton Rouge. Lunch and fishing gear provided for pre-schoolers to sixth graders. Prizes will be awarded.

Senior Citizen Day

On The River set

The annual “Senior Citizen Day on The River” will be held May 14 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at Fred’s On The River, Hwy. 42, Port Vincent.

Seniors will feast on a free lunch prepared by Jimmy Babin and dance to T-Boy Moore and other musicians.
