Gonzales Sister City Program meeting Thursday

The Gonzales Sister City Program will host a meeting Thursday, March 19 at 6 p.m. at Ronnie Comeaux’s home, 41218 Clearwater, Gonzales. This month’s meeting will center on the reception of the Meylan delegation. For more information, call 933-3637.

March of Dimes lunch benefit Friday

GSA, Inc. has announced their commitment to the 2009 March of Dimes Campaign by sponsoring a shrimp stew lunch Friday, March 20 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The shrimp stew lunch comes with potato salad, bread and dessert for $8.  The lunches can be picked up at the GSA office located at 1022 S. Purpera Ave., Gonzales. Upcoming health talk Thursday

Smith Chiropractic Clinic, 525 E. New River Ste. B, Gonzales, will host a free health talk  on  “Drugless Guide to Balancing Female Hormones” March 19 at noon.

COA hosting free Senior Health Fair

The Ascension Council on Aging is hosting a Senior Health Fair at the Gonzales Senior Center, 526 South Irma Boulevard Friday, March 20 from 9:30 a.m.-noon.

Participating in the event are Quality Hearing Aids, Dr. Eva Lamendola, Metro Preferred Home Care, Magnolia/Davita Dialysis Services, Southern University Ag Center, LSU Ag Center, Capital Area Agency on Aging, Louisiana Department of Insurance, Louisiana Attorney General's Office, Cannon Hospice, MMO Medical Management Option, Arthritis Association of LA, Acadian, On Call, and Woman's Hospital. Screening will include blood pressure checks, eye and vision testing, blood glucose testing, and hearing screening. A dietitian will be on hand to answer questions on diet and nutrition for older adults. Information will be provided on many subjects including arthritis, caregiver support, health insurance, senior fitness, medic alerts, health and fitness, healthy eating, nutrition and much more.

A nutritious lunch will be served at noon to those who call the center by Tuesday, March 17 at noon.

Explore Science  ‘Colonizing Space’

Space: The final frontier. Our mission: To explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, and to boldly go where no one has gone before. Do you think you have the right stuff to compete in this “Mission to Mars” challenge or design your very own space station? What do you think it would be like to live among the stars? If you want to find out, permission to beam aboard is granted on Friday, March 20 at 4 p.m. at the Ascension Parish Library in Donaldsonville. Classy Ladies Social Club’s Spring Fling    

The Classy Ladies Social Club’s 1st Annual Spring Fling is scheduled for Saturday, March 21 at 11 a.m. in Welcome Park St. James. All are welcomed to attend.

There will be a special appearance by the Easter bunny for pictures, entertainment, Easter egg hunt at 3 p.m., car show, bike show, various foods from chefs in the surrounding parishes and face painting.

Proceeds from the event will go to benefit CLSC Community Outreach Program and the “Cinderella Project.”

Falpjacks for Firefighters Breakfast

A ‘3-Alarm Fundraiser’ to benefit the 5th Ward Volunteer Fire Department will be held Saturday, March 28 at Pelican Point Club House. The public is invited to attend and feast on all-you-can-eat ‘Hot Cakes’ at the “Flapjacks for Firefighters” fundraiser from 7-11 a.m. Breakfast will also include sausage, fruit, juice, milk and coffee.

The event will include a “Hot to Trot Fun Run.” Run or walk in 1-mile and a 5K race will be held through Pelican Point. The 1-mile run/walk begins a 8 a.m. and 5K (run/walk) begins at 6:30 a.m. Both races start and finish at the Club House. Free T-shirts to the first 200 entrants. Age group prizes.

Also included in the day is a “Red-Hot raffle” of gift baskets donated by area businesses, clubs and individuals.

Easter Egg Hunt March 28

The KC Council 6389 and Ladies Auxiliary is hosting its Annual Easter Egg Hunt Saturday, March 28 at 1 p.m. The event is for ages infant to 12. Participants will have a chance to find Easter eggs for prizes.

The event will be held at the Hall at 43472 Black Bayou Road.

Sorority Chapter hosting Princess Dress Project

Phi Sigma Omega Gonzales Chapter, of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is hosting the Princess Dress Project.

The Princess Dress Project will help female high school students who are financially challenged attend their school’s formal events (proms, semi formals, etc.), by  providing gowns/dresses that they can wear to these events, free of charge. These gowns are being donated by local community members. Students must bring a valid high school ID.

This event will be held Saturday, March 28 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Geismar Community Center, 12060 Hwy. 73, Geismar. Call 225-810-7675 or 225-278-4111 for information or to make a donation prior to the event. Donations needed are for clean, gently worn formal and semi formal dresses. 

DTHS Band to host Jazz Brunch/Silent Auction

The Dutchtown High School Band will host its 3rd Annual Jazz Brunch/Silent Auction Saturday, March 28 and Sunday, March 29 in the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church Community Center.

The bidding for the silent auction will take place from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday, and continue on Sunday from 7 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Some items that we are auctioning include golf, spa, and bed and breakfast packages, dinner for six cooked at your home by Chef KD, LSU memorabilia and more.

The Jazz Brunch will take place from 7 a.m.-10 a.m. on Sunday, and includes pancakes, bacon, juice, coffee, and milk for $5.

Gonzales girl calls for support

The Epilepsy Foundation of Louisiana will host a “Seize the Day and Take A Walk” April 25 at the LSU Campus. A team in the name of Gabrielle Reese, 7, of Gonzales, will support this by walking for the event. Reese attends Central Elementary and is the daughter of Mike and Marcie Buker.
