Do Right Full Gospel Church, Hwy. 44, Gonzales, celebrated black history Feb. 22 by hosting an occasion with the theme “Love, Faith, Victory.” Recognition was given to the father of black history, Carter G. Woodson, and James Welson Johnson for his poem, “Lift Every Voice and Sing” that his brother put to music and became the National Anthem. The focus was on African American leaders that lead the way, Frederick Douglas, Jesse Jackson, etc. to the 44th president of the United States, Barack Obama. A salute and performance was made by portraying Obama (Felton Brown lll), Michelle Obama (Tempest Dorsey), and their children Sasha and Malia (Deanna and Sister Allen.) Dorsey made comments and Brown highlighted President Obama’s Inaugural Address. Pastor Irving Bouin Sr. and the DoRight Full Gospel family would like to thank those who participated and those who came out to help make the program a success.
