Catholic Daughters of St. Theresa celebrate 43rd anniversary

The Catholic Daughters of the America Court St. Theresa of Avila 1955 celebrated its 43rd anniversary Sunday, Feb. 22 with a banquet held at Mike Anderson’s. The banquet was dedicated to member Marguerite Himel who has been a Catholic Daughter for 70 years. The Catholic Daughters of the America Court St. Theresa of Avila 1955 celebrated its 43rd anniversary Sunday, Feb. 22 with a banquet held at Mike Anderson’s. More than 50 members and quest were in attendance. Also present were Alice Tassin, state regent; and husband Paul, Barbara Dugas, district deputy, and Deacon James Morrissey and wife, Betty of St. Mark Parish.

The banquet was dedicated to one of the members, Marguerite Himel, who has been a Catholic Daughter for 70 years. Himel was presented a certificate for her years of service to the Catholic Daughters. Other members receiving pins were Diana DuBois and Frankie Gurney, 50 years; Margorie Richardson, 45 years; Helen Hebert and Veronique “Noon” Delatte, 25 years; Rita Schultz, 20 years; Etheline Bourque and Francis Kavanaugh, 5 years.

A memorial service by Deacon Morrissey was held for five members of the court who were deceased in 2008 and all deceased members of the court. The 2008 deceased members are Mabel Templet, JoAnn Kling, Irma V. Hernandez, Gladys Fife and Julie Austin.

Court St. Theresa of Avila is made up of women from St. Theresa, St. Mark and St. John the Evangelist. A cordial invitation was sent to all ladies from these parishes to consider joining the Catholic Daughters. It is a national women’s organization with a membership of 150,000. There are over 100 Courts in Louisiana with a membership of more than 12,000.

Catholic Daughters was the idea of a Knight of Columbus. It was first named as Daughters of Isabella then later changed to Catholic Daughters of America. Its first regent was a man, a KC member.
