Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Melancon celebrate 50th wedding anniversary

Gilbert and Tooney (Bourgeois) Melancon of St. Amant celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday evening, Jan. 24, 2009, surrounded by family and friends at a party held in their honor at the St. Amant Knights of Columbus Hall.

Gilbert and Tooney (Bourgeois) Melancon of St. Amant celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday evening, Jan. 24, 2009, surrounded by family and friends at a party held in their honor at the St. Amant Knights of Columbus Hall. The couple was married Jan. 24, 1959, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

The party was hosted by the couple’s children and their spouses, Gill and Renee’ Melancon, Tony and Jody Delatte Jason and Wende’ Melancon, and Arlene Melancon. The couple’s grandchildren were also in attendance.

The evening began with an anniversary blessing for the couple given by Rev. Jon Koehler and Rev. Boby Alex of Holy Rosary. After the blessing, the couple was honored with several toasts congratulating them on their accomplishment. Four of the couple’s attendants were present.

The couple also shared a replica of their wedding cake, made by their niece, Raven Harrelson.

After cake and champagne, the couple’s children and grandchildren presented a special video of the couple and their family through the years. The couple then danced to their favorite song, “What a Wonderful World,” played by the Kenny Fife Band.
