Rotary Club of EA annual Mardi Gras Ball Saturday
The 2009 Mardi Gras Ball sponsored by the Rotary Club of East Ascension will be Feb. 14 from 7:30 p.m.–1 a.m. at Elegant Affairs. There will be a live and silent auction, full buffet with beverage provided and music by The Tip Tops. Proceeds from the ball will go to benefit Ascension Community Theatre. MOPS to host ‘Bake Sale’ Sunday
MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) will host a “Bake Sale” Sunday, Feb. 15 at Broussard Grove Baptist Church from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at 39258 Hwy. 42, Prairieville.
Proceeds to fund projects such as miscarriage boxes, greeting card kits for military children and other great causes.
The event will offer homemade cakes, cookies, breads, and etc. to choose from.

• Feb. 13 - Ascension Council on Aging Annual Mardi Gras Celebration, Gonzales Senior Center, 9:30 a.m.-noon.
• Feb. 16 – Fast Exercise, Donaldsonville, 9:30 a.m., and Gonzales, 10:45 a.m.
• Feb. 17 – Pilates, Gonzales, 9:15 a.m.; Gonzales Recipe and Coupon Exchange Club Day; and Bridge Lessons, Gonzales 1 p.m.
• Feb. 18 – Afternoon Dance, Clif Nickens, Gonzales Senior Center, from 1-3 p.m.; and Fast Exercise, Donaldsonville, 9:30 a.m. and Gonzales, 10:45 a.m.
Ascension Parish Jr. Leader Club to host dance
The Ascension Parish Jr. Leader Club will be hosting a dance for all children in the fourth-eighth grades. Children do not have to be 4-H members to attend the dance. The dance will be held at the YMCA gym at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center Feb. 20, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the 4-H Office at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center on the second floor of the YMCA building, from a Jr. Leader Club member, or at the door on the night of the dance.
There will be a DJ and concessions will be sold during the dance. The dance will be chaperoned by parents, 4-H leaders, and security will be provided by a policeman.

Local church to observe Black History Feb. 22
The Little Zion Baptist Church, 2444 West Orice Roth Rd., Gonzales, will be observing Black History Sunday, Feb. 22 during its 8 a.m. worship service. The program will feature the City of Gonzales’ first black chief of police, Sherman D. Jackson. The public is invited to attend.
Cookoff to benefit St. Jude
The annual St. Jude State Championship Bayou Bar-B-Que Cook Off will be Feb. 27-28 at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales. Live music will be provided by Trent Bourgeois and Kenny Cornett with Killin Time on Friday night. There will be a car show and Bar-B-Que competition also. The competition will include three levels: IBCA State Championship, Backyard Competitions (for weekend warriors) and Kids Krew Bar-B-Que (for ages 6-16). Any company who sponsors a team or teams, within each contest, will be able to display a banner or sign within there cooking area. All proceeds will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Chapter to host Benefit Ball
Phi Sigma Omega Charitable and Educational Organization a 501(C)(3) arm of Phi Sigma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is hosting its 5th Annual Benefit Ball Saturday, Feb. 28, from 8 p.m.-midnight, at Palazzo Bernardo’s Grand Ballroom in Donaldsonville.
The event will feature, Denise Johnson, director of sales for Citadel Broadcasting as the emcee and the popular band 2Hipnotic featuring Lazerus.

St. Mark Church to offer Lenten Faith Sharing
St. Mark Catholic Church in Gonzales will host a Lenten Faith Sharing. The theme this year will be “The Journey of Life: A Holy Journey Indeed.” It will be for five consecutive Thursdays, starting Feb.19 concluding on March 19 from 6-9 p.m. The presenter will be Fr. Joel LaBauve. A light meal will be available from 6-6:30 p.m. each Thursday night. Each session will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. and end promptly at 8 p.m. Certificate Credit Hours are available.
